Alonzo Jay Edgerton (1827-1896)
Alonzo Jay Edgerton graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1850, then moved to Minnesota where he was prosecuting attorney of Dodge County and a member of the state senate from 1858-1859. During the Civil War he served as a private and captain in the 10th Minnesota Volunteer Regiment, a colonel of the 67th and 65th U.S. Colored Infantry, and was brevetted brigadier general. He served again in the Minnesota state senate and briefly in the U.S. Senate to fill a vacancy.
