Henry Lawrence Eustis (1819-1885)

Henry Lawrence Eustis graduated from Harvard in 1838 and then went to West Point graduating 1st in the class of 1842. He taught engineering at West Point and Harvard before the Civil War. During the war he was Colonel of the 10th Massachusetts Volunteers and was promoted to Brigadier General of Volunteers. He resigned in June of 1864 due to poor health and returned to Harvard where he taught for the rest of his life.
