Liberator Banner

William Lloyd Garrison's abolitionist newspaper, The Liberator, first appeared on January 1, 1931. The Liberator was perhaps the most important of all abolitionist newspapers, though by the late 1840s black leaders like Frederick Douglass were founding their own papers in an attempt to take leadership of the anti-slavery movement.
