General Lawrence Simmons Baker, C.S.A. (1830-1907)
Simmons graduated from West Point in 1851 and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Mounted Rifleman. He resigned from the U.S. Army when North Carolina seceded from the Union. In the Confederate Army, he commanded the 1st North Carolina Calvary. Baker was promoted to brigadier general in 1863 and was twice wounded severely. His bandaged wounded right arm can be seen in this photograph.
