Braxton Bragg (1817-1876)
Bragg, a 1837 West Pointer, served in the Seminole and Mexican Wars. In 1861 he was commissioned a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. As a major general he commanded the 2nd Corps at Shiloh and at Corinth. Promoted to full general he commanded the Army of Tennessee when it invaded Kentucky. Rosecrans defeated him at Chattanooga. In this photo, taken before the Civil War, Bragg wears his Federal uniform.
