General James H. Clanton, C.S.A. (1827-1877)

Clanton fought in the Mexican War and afterward became a lawyer and a legislator in the Alabama legislature. During the Civil War, he fought for the Confederacy as a Brigadier General. After the war, he was active in Democratic politics and became the state's attorney for Alabama. He was killed in a private feud with an ex-Union officer.
