Storming Fort Wagner
This color lithograph depicts the gallant charge of the 54th Massachusetts Colored Infantry on Fort Wagner near Charleston on July 18, 1863. Their commanding officer, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, is depicted with his sword upraised at the moment he received his fatal wound, as he led the charge upon the Rebel parapet.
