Champion Wheelbarrow Pedestrian
Here is L. P. Federmeyer, the celebrated champion wheelbarrow pedestrian of the world. He left San Francisco for New York City on December 8, 1878 and arrived in New York City on July 23, 1879, one thousand miles ahead of his competition. He walked a total distance of 4,500 miles. He is pictured here with referee and guide (pictured with gun) James T. Fuller.
