Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)
Here is President Calvin Coolidge from Vermont who ascended to the office after Warren Harding died suddenly in 1923. Coolidge was elected to his own term on the Republican ticket in 1924. Though he successfully balanced the budget and reduced the deficit, his only positive social program was a minor expansion of the federal role in road building. He failed to do anything to help the country avert the looming financial crisis.
