Hiram Rhoades Revels (1827?-1901)

Hiram Rhoades Revels was an African-American U.S. senator, clergyman, and educator. He was also the first president of Alcorn State University. Revels became the first African-American senator in 1870, taking the seat in Congress that Jefferson Davis held before the Civil War.
