George Armstrong Custer (1839-1876)
George Armstrong Custer was the youngest general in the Union army, being promoted to Major General in 1865. During the war he had eleven horses killed under him, but he was only wounded once. He served in the cavalry fighting Indians after the war and is probably remembered most for Little Big Horn, where he and his troops were massacred by the Sioux in 1876. Custer graduated last in the West Point class of 1861. George Armstrong Custer and his men are depicted here during the Battle of Little Bighorn, where they were all killed by Sioux Indians on June 25th, 1876.
