"The Opening of the Fight at Wounded Knee"

This drawing by Frederic Remington depicts the opening shots by the Seventh Cavalry during the Wounded Knee Massacre. This was the last major armed conflict between the Indians and the U.S. army. American troops killed nearly 300 unarmed Sioux Indian men, women, and children.
