Alexander Shaler

Alexander Shaler, a Union soldier in New York's 7th Regiment, has his photograph taken standing with his rifle over his soldier at Mathew Brady's studio in Washington, DC. By the end of the Civil War, Shaler was brevetted major general of volunteers.
