Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881)

Thomas Carlyle was a Scottish author and historian. He was the most highly regarded social critic and philosopher of Victorian England who wrote on the issues of democracy, heroism and revolution. This engraving by Joseph Brown was based on an Elliott & Fry photograph.
