Field Hospital, Savage's Station
These are sick and wounded Union soldiers from the Battle of Gaines's Mill which took place on June 27, 1862. They were photographed on Saturday afternoon, June 28, at Savage's house by Gardner photographer James F. Gibson. Many are from the 16th New York. The Confederates attacked the very next day and the Federals were forced to retreat leaving behind over five hundred of their wounded.
