Aikens Landing

This is Aikens Landing, where Civil War prisoners were exchanged. Flag-of-truce boats from Richmond delivered their cargo of Union prisoners and received the same number of Confederates in exchange. Two or three rough canal boats are anchored to the dock. The double-turreted monitor flies the U.S. flag on the James River.
