"The 'Sunken Road' at Antietam"
This ditch or sunken road, known as Bloody Lane, was used by the Confederates as a rifle pit. A Union battery succeeded in getting an excellent range of this road, and slaughtered the enemy like sheep. This view of some of the dead just as they fell, is only a specimen of many groups of dead in that terrible trap.
